Minister Manohar Parrikar Inaugurates KMC hospital new block
Mangaluru: The new block of the KMC hospital was officially inaugurated by the defence minister Govt of India Manohar Parrikar at Jyothi here on December 25.
The new block of KMC was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp followed by unveiling of the plaque by the defense minister along with other dignitaries on the dais.
The programme began with an invocation. Chairman Manipal Hospitals Dr H Sudarshan Ballal welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the gathering Minister Parrikar said, “Today people are busy celebrating Christmas and we are celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ because Jesus always spoke about helping the poor and the needy. On this auspicious day, the KMC hospital has taken a step to inaugurate the newly constructed hospital block. Health is a very important aspect and in India, for the needy, we need to provide medical facilities at affordable price. A Certain number of patients should be treated at a reasonable rate and some patients can be treated free of cost depending on their financial situation”.
Parrikar urged the hospital authorities to go for the cashless system because In Goa the cashless system is in practice in the government hospitals. In Goa, they go house to house in search of patients since most of the time people are not aware of their own health especially women who suffer silently without expressing their pain. KMC hospital is doing a yeomen service in providing quality service to the patients. He congratulated the management for their initiative and wished everyone a happy and joyous Christmas.
Pro Chancellor of Manipal University Dr H S Ballal delivered the keynote address and assured of providing medical treatment at a reasonable price so that people of all walks of life can avail the services at KMC hospital. No patient is denied health care because he/she does not have money. We treat all the poor of the poorest patients who come for treatment. We are also treating patients in the government hospital and providing quality treatment. In the Wenlock hospital for those who deserve treatment or diagnostic facilities, not available there, we treat them at the KMC hospital either free of cost or at a highly subsidised rate. We entertaining all government schemes and also have our own Manipal Arogya Suraksha scheme. Under this scheme, we cover people under BPL up to Rs 30,000 but now we have increased it to Rs 50,000. State of the art facilities are very expensive but our policy is to treat the poor of the poorest people in our hospital. We have more than 5000 patients visiting our hospitals in Mangaluru and Manipal every day, we will continue to treat patients as we are in a Private-public partnership.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader launched the IBM Watson for Oncology.
Medical Superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal delivered the vote of thanks. MLA J R Lobo, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Group Medical Director MHE Dr Nagendra Swamy, Unit Head Saghir Siddiqui and others were also present.

To provide continued access to world-class treatment to the people of Mangaluru, KMC Hospital announced the launch of a new block at Dr B R Ambedkar Circle. The new block, which is equipped with the state-of-the-art multidisciplinary facility to cater to people with all types of ailments, was inaugurated by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday.
Manipal Hospitals also introduced IBM Watson for Oncology, an artificial intelligence platform, for Cancer patients at KMC Mangalore. Watson, which is trained by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, USA which is one of the top rated cancer institutions in the world, analyses clinical data to provide information and insights regarding evidence-based treatment options, to help oncologists provide cancer patients with individualized healthcare.
At seven locations, Manipal oncologists now use IBM Watson for Oncology for clinically eligible cancer patients that are registered with a Manipal facility pan-India including Goa covering West India, Jaipur covering North, Vijayawada covering East, South and rest of the country covered by the three Manipal hospitals in Bangalore and KMC, Mangalore.
Manipal Hospitals’ partnership with IBM Watson for Oncology remains the first deployment of Watson in India and second hospital in the world as the country advances its efforts to transform healthcare.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar is simply quoting the PM, Modi – Go Cashless – Go Cashless. Afterall, he can go cashless as both the PM and Mr. Parrikar do not pay for any service! Yes, many a times, people after standing in long queues in the banks and at the ATM have to Go Cashless and return home, because there is no more cash with the banks and ATM.
