Minister U.T. Khader Calls for Public Awareness Campaigns to Prevent Summer Drinking Water Shortage

Mangaluru: In view of the possibility of drinking water shortages during the coming summer due to changing weather conditions, District Minister U.T. Khader has directed officials to create widespread public awareness about the judicious use and conservation of water.

Chairing a meeting on drinking water supply and various departmental matters at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday, the Minister said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that people do not face any hardship due to water scarcity during the next summer.

He urged officials to appeal to the public not to waste drinking water unnecessarily and to use it judiciously and responsibly. He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner to organise awareness campaigns through local bodies and the concerned departments to promote water conservation.

The Minister clarified that sufficient funds were already available in the accounts of the Deputy Commissioner and taluk Tahsildars to meet the expenses of drinking water supply and related works.

He further directed officials to immediately submit appropriate proposals to the government and secure additional funds if the available allocation proved insufficient to meet the requirements.
