Los Angles, August 3 (IANS) Special Olympics athlete Andi Gusmari was on Monday found over 500 km from where he was last seen near University of Southern California (USC) campus on Saturday.

The 44-year-old was last seen on Saturday. He walked into a Hayward police station on Monday.

Alameda County, where Gusmari was found, is around 300 miles (over 500 km) from here, but how he travelled to the place remains unknown, reports nbclosangeles.com.

“We don’t know how he got there,” said Jeff Carr, chief operating officer of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. “That’s a question that everyone has,” he said.

“Our understanding is he was in good health. He was not injured, he was hungry.”

Police are working to reunite Gusmari with a Special Olympics delegation and then he would take a flight back to Albania.

Carr said the athlete’s family has been notified about finding him.

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jack Richter said Gusmari, who was in the bowling competition, was at a festival at USC with his delegation on Saturday and got separated from his group when he went to the washroom.

It was found that he was missing only after coaches realised he had not come back at bed check.
