MLAs warn of Severe Protest if NH Issue Not Solved within 15 Days
Udupi: Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis a meeting with the National Highway authorities was held at the DC office on Thursday, July 26.
The meeting was attended by MLC and Opposition leader in the Legislative Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLAs Haladi Srinivas Shetty, Lalaji R Mendon, MLC Prathapchandra Shetty, ZP president Dinakar Babu, AC Bhoobalan, ASP Kumar Chandra, Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Shivanand Kapashi and NHAI officials.
During the meeting MLC and Opposition leader in the Legislative Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the highway is ridden with potholes and the public has been facing a lot of inconvenience due to the delay in the construction of the overbridge. Accidents have been frequent on the stretch. All the problems should be dealt with and the issue should be solved at the earliest. He also warned of holding severe protests with the support of the public, if the irregularities on National Highway passing through Byndoor, Kundapur and Udupi, are not set right within 15 days.
MLA Sukumar Shetty asked the officials to repair the national highway at Ottinene in Byndoor, where there was a landslide recently. MLA Shrinivas Shetty directed the officials to repair the stretch been Shastri Circle and Vinayak Talkies, the work of which was of poor quality.
The officials said that the suggested works will be carried out before August 10. The Kundapur overbridge will be completed by March 2019. Also, the work on the overbridge at the Karavali junction will be finished within three months.
Kundapur MLA Haladi Shrinivas Shetty, Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon and MLC Pratap Chandra Shetty took the officials to task for the delay in completing the work.
