M’lore varsity emerges athletics champs fourth time in a row

Moodbidri: The valedictory of the 80th all India Inter University Athletic Championship held at Swarajya Maidan and witnessed the presence of “the queen of Indian track and field” P.T Usha.

 

She spoke highly about the timely and well organized arrangements made by Alva’s Education Foundation. She then thanked the chairman of AEF Dr. M Mohan Alva for his relentless support to the field of sports. She was felicitated by the foundation on the occasion.

The Foundation felicitated Indian coach, World University Games, Vijendra Singh, as best coach with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 for nurturing maximum athletes.

Jay Pradeep Shah of Mangalore University, two times meet record holder with triple jump men section was awarded the best athlete for securing 1115 points. Y Jyothi of Acharya Nagarjuna University was awarded the best female athlete, for pursing 1146 points. The Mangalore University achieves the All India Athletic Championship for the fourth consecutive years. It glorified with succession of 170 points. University of madras came up with 98.5 points fetching the runner’s up trophy.

The winners of the gold medal were awarded with a cash prize of Rs15,000, Rs10,000 for silver, Rs5000 for bronze medal winners along with the cash prize of Rs.25, 000 for making a new meet record. On the occasion six universities were felicitated for their participation and organizing various sports events.

Former Minister Amarnath Shetty, K Abhaychandra Jain, All Indian Universities Observer Dr Charanjeeth Singh G, RGHUS Deputy Registrar Dr Vasanth Shetty and others present among them.
