Mortal Remains of Alwyn Prakash Kunder Brought Back from Sharjah; Funeral Held in Kundapur
Kundapur: The mortal remains of Alwyn Prakash Kunder (50), a resident of Honnanakere within Kundapur Municipality limits, who was allegedly murdered under mysterious circumstances in Sharjah in July, arrived in his hometown by flight from Sharjah on September 25.
On Friday morning, the body was taken to his residence, where the final rites were performed. The funeral was subsequently held at around 10:30 a.m. at the CSI Krupa Church cemetery near Shastri Circle in Kundapur. He was laid to rest beside his parents’ graves.
The religious rites were conducted at the CSI Krupa Church under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Jayakar. Area President Rev. Kishore Kumar, Rev. Edwin Joseph, CASI Diocese Treasurer Ivan Sons, Rev. Praveen Maben, Rev. Fr. Ravi Shashikala of Basrur Elizabeth Church, and Rev. Steven Sarvottam also participated in the rites.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA A. Kiran Kumar Kodgi, former MP K. Jayaprakash Hegde, Coastal Development Authority Chairman M.A. Gafoor, Urban Development Authority Chairman Vinod Krasta, former municipal members Prabhakar, Rajesh Kaveri and Ratnakar, and prominent figures including Dinesh Hegde Molahalli, Vikas Hegde, Vijay S. Poojary and V. Narasimha, among others, visited the bereaved family.
M.A. Gafoor, Prashanth, Akash, Prameela Jattan and Uday, among others, travelled to Mangaluru International Airport early Friday morning to complete the formalities for receiving the mortal remains.
Police Seeking Information Through Interpol: SP Hariram Shankar
Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that efforts were being made to obtain information through Interpol regarding the alleged murder of Kundapur native Alwyn Prakash Kunder in Sharjah.
The deceased’s brother met the SP on September 22 and submitted a request seeking assistance in the matter, if required. However, the SP stated that Udupi Police could not initiate legal action against the accused in the case unless a Letter Rogatory, Red Corner Notice or another appropriate Interpol notice was issued.
Meanwhile, arrangements were being made to establish contact with the Indian Embassy in Dubai. This would enable the deceased’s family members to approach the concerned authorities, obtain updates on the investigation and coordinate further action, SP Hariram Shankar said.
“He Called Us Every Week but Never Mentioned Any Problems”: Brother Anil Prashanth Kunder
Speaking in Kundapur, Anil Prashanth Kunder, the elder brother of Alwyn Prakash Kunder, recalled his brother and shared memories of their last meeting.
He said Alwyn had visited his hometown last December with his wife and son during their vacation. The family had also undertaken a short trip to visit relatives. Although Alwyn used to call and speak to his family whenever he was free, he had never mentioned any personal or family problems.
“The brutal murder of my soft-natured younger brother has deeply affected us. Those responsible should be punished,” Anil said.
Alwyn Prakash was the son of the late Sheila and Tejpal Kunder, who originally hailed from Korangrapady in Udupi. Sheila worked as a staff nurse at a government hospital. Following her transfer, the family moved to Kundapur, where she subsequently served at various health centres in and around the town.
The family owned a house in Honnanakere, Kundapur, where Alwyn’s brother Anil Prashanth, his sister and his niece currently reside.
Around 20 years ago, Alwyn Prakash Kunder married Teena, who originally hailed from Balayipade in Udyavara. The couple had two sons, one of whom died due to illness. Thereafter, Alwyn and Teena lived with their surviving son, who is currently studying in Class 10. Teena worked as a teacher in Sharjah.
Alwyn Prakash Kunder studied at a reputed private college in Kundapur before pursuing higher education in Mangaluru. After gaining work experience in Goa, he moved abroad for employment.
He worked in countries including the United States and Russia. For the past 14 years, he had been employed with Siemens in Sharjah and had risen to the position of Senior Engineer at Terminal 2 of the local airport.
He used to visit his hometown with his family every December to celebrate Christmas. However, he was allegedly murdered in Sharjah in July this year.
According to information available to the family, Alwyn’s wife and son had gone missing and were believed to have travelled to Delhi. Family members expressed suspicions regarding Alwyn’s wife, stating that she had not contacted them so far. These claims could not be independently verified.
The family urged the authorities to establish the truth behind the case and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice. They also appealed to the government, police department, and other concerned authorities to extend the necessary assistance with legal procedures and the investigation.
