Mudarangadi David D’Souza Shootout Case: Two Accused Remanded in Police Custody for 10 Days
Udupi: A court in Udupi has remanded two accused in the shootout and murder case involving former Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat president and contractor David D’Souza to 10 days of police custody.
The arrested accused, Ajay alias Anmol Rastogi of Uttarakhand and Jiauallah alias Deepak of Bihar, were earlier in judicial custody. They were produced before the court on Monday by an investigating officer and Kapu Police Inspector Azmath Ali.
The police sought their custody for further investigation. Responding to the request, Judge Purushottama ordered that both accused be remanded to police custody for 10 days.
Police have reportedly gathered leads regarding the alleged mastermind behind the shooting and murder of David D’Souza. Based on these leads, police teams have travelled to North India and questioned several people.
According to sources, David D’Souza was allegedly killed on contract over a financial dispute related to an Adani UPCL project. Two police teams have travelled to Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh in search of a contractor from North India who had reportedly undertaken the project.
Police have reportedly obtained clues about the alleged mastermind suspected of hiring the shooters to kill D’Souza. A team that travelled to Haryana is conducting an extensive search for the suspect. Sources said several people have been taken into custody for questioning in Haryana and Punjab.
However, no formal arrests have been made in connection with the alleged mastermind so far, sources said.
