New Delhi: 53-year-old Yakub Memon Hanged to Death

New Delhi: Yakub Memon hanged till death at 6.43 am for his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, which was ruled by the Supreme Court at 5 am.

For the first time ever, a hearing was held in the top court’s premises in the middle of the night.

Earlier the jail superintendent inclined to handover body to family. Body to be handed over on conditions set for burial. No funeral procession will be taken out.

At 3 am Yakub was woken up by jail authorities. Early morning his plea was rejected by the SC filed by Yakub. Section 144 was imposed at Nagpur Jail to prevent law and order situation. High alert sounded at Bengaluru in the wake of Yakub’s hanging.

His body will be brought to Mumbai by afternoon and last rites performed either at Marine or at Mahim. The family wants to bury Yakub where his father was buried.

Yakub Memons’ post mortem is being conducted at the Nagpur Jail. All state police and border forces are put on high alert. Sensitive installations put on high alert as well.
