Udupi: Schemes formulated for the minorities, backward classes and SC/ST’s are for their welfare, one should not politicize these schemes, said Udupi constituency MLA Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking after distributing cheques to beneficiaries of the Minority community in a programme held at the Taluk Panchayat, here on April 1.
There are 24% people belonging to SC/ST, 10% minorities and 50% others belong to backward classes. Separate departments are created for their welfare, and these departments formulate various schemes. Every government which comes to power is bound to promote the welfare of minorities, backward classes and SC/ST’s as it is mandated by the Indian constitution.
The beneficiaries who avail loan under various schemes should utilize it for their empowerment. Udupi constituency is ahead in assisting minorities and backward classes to avail various schemes, he added.
Loans worth Rupees 13.75 lakh was distributed to the beneficiaries.
Meenakshi Madhava president, Sandhya Kumari vice president, Celina Karkada councillor Udupi CMC, Veronica Cornelio chairperson KSDL, Advocate Habib Ali, Sridhar Bhandary Manager minority committee were present.
