NYK Facilitates Live Telecast of Nation-wide Fit India Movement by PM Modi

Mangaluru: August 29 is celebrated as National Sports Day, in commemoration of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand’s birthday. This year, the FIT INDIA campaign was inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.

Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangalore in association with MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies organised to relay the live telecast of the inauguration to the students. A program was organised at Swarna Academy hall of the institute. The program began with a prayer by Soujanya followed by welcome address by Usha Mogra, Assistant Professor. The Dean Dr Vishnu Prasanna enlightened the students towards the need for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. This was followed by the live telecast of the Inauguration.

The inauguration began with a welcome by MP Kiran Rijiju, Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, followed by a colourful display of Indias martial arts, traditional sports and Art forms including dances. These activities have physical activity and agility inherent in them. All these activities showed how various parts of the body receive exercise, and how they enhance fitness and concentration.

The program proceeded with Honourable Prime Minister Modi addressing the audience, as well as those viewing the program through Doordarshan and social media. He applauded the creativity of the organisers in depicting the benefits of exercise in the presentation. He stressed the need for people to stop talking about fitness, and proceed to act upon it. He said “there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs”, implying that to achieve success hard work, and effort is essential.

Following the live telecast, Raghuveer, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra addressed the students and encouraged them to participate in more activities in the social sphere, to learn about the realities of life. He narrated certain personal experiences, illustrating that all handicaps can be overcome with determination and hard work. Raghuveer proceeded to administer the pledge to the audience, eliciting a promise to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Anusha of II MBA. The program was attended by students of II MBA, faculty, staff and volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra
