Officials Seize 5,000 Kg of Artificially Coloured Bananas in Alevoor
Udupi: A racket involving the artificial colouring of bananas for sale has been uncovered in Udupi, following a raid by food safety officials in Alevoor on Thursday, August 20.
A team led by Kundapur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Assistant Commissioner) Rashmi raided a banana wholesale market at three locations in Alevoor, Udupi taluk, on Thursday morning and seized around 5,000 kg of bananas allegedly treated with artificial colouring agents. The seized bananas are estimated to be worth around Rs 4 lakh.
Officials also seized the chemicals allegedly used to colour the bananas artificially. A complaint has been filed before the ADJ Court in connection with the incident.
The raid was conducted based on credible information regarding the illegal activity.
The raid team comprised Health Inspector Vivek Thirumala, Tahsildar Gururaj, Village Accountants Karthik Bhat and Vijay, and Food Inspector Leelananda.
