Organic Products: The healthy future
“Healthy food is nutritious, but organic food is healthy because it is pure”. Organic is the way, a habit and a practice all rolled into one. Department of diet and nutrition SDM naturopathy and yogic sciences Ujire has set up an organic food stall at exhibition ground as a part of the Lakshadeepotsava programme. The main aim of this stall is to interact with people and spread awareness about organic foods. The stall provides nutritious food and juices which are prepared with organic products like jaggery, mint, vegetables and many more. The highest selling food is Momos which is made up of wheat instead of maida and wheatgrass juice which helps to kill the cancer cells. They also provide free consultation for the people like sugar test, lipid profile, fat analysis test apart from organic food. This stall is taken care of by Assistant prof. Ajith and Dr Vineetha, department of diet and nutrition and students of 3rd year BNYS.
“All food stalls provide tasty food, but providing natural and nutritious food is healthier,” says Prof. Ajith. He explained that organic products have a higher nutritional value than conventional food. The food which is served in the stall is prepared by students at the college lab under the lecturer’s guidance. The food which is prepared here does not contain any chemicals, artificial colours etc. He also mentioned that ‘students are enjoying and also promoting healthy food’ which helps to give awareness to people about health consciousness.
This is a good step taken by SDM Naturopathy Centre which helps the public to know about ‘different kinds of healthy and natural food items which can be prepared at their home instead of eating junk outside’.
