Panel Discussion on the theme, “Mahatma Gandhi and the Differential Responses to Religious Belonging in India”

Mangaluru: The Department of Political Science, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru will organise a panel discussion on the theme, “Mahatma Gandhi and the Differential Responses to Religious Belonging in India”, at 2.00 pm, Sanidhya on August 01, 2019 to commemorate 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi.

Rev. Dr. Joachim Andrade, SVD , Professor from the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana, Brazil will be the Chief Speaker dwelling on the issue of Religion locating its roots to geography. The program will be presided over by Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vas, S.J., the Rector of St. Aloysius Institutions. Rev Fr Praveen Martis, SJ Principal is hosting the programme. Dr. Rose Veera D’Souza, the Head of the Department of Political Science will be the convenor of the Programme.

The eminent panelists of this program are Dr. Valerian Rodrigues, former Professor of Political Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi who will speak on “ Significance of the Pre-political in Mahatma Gandhi” and Dr Rajaram Tolpadi, former Professor of Political Science at Mangalore University will speak on “ Mahatma Gandhi on Religion and Politics”. The program will also host student panelists on the said theme.

The management and the department will felicitate eminent academicians in the Panel for their contribution to social science in the coastal town.

About Rev. Dr. Joachim Andrade, SVD :

Rev. Dr. Joachim Andrade, is a native of Bantwal, completed his degree education in Mysore, completed his studies in Philosophy and theology at Gyan Deepa Vidyapeeth at Pune. Holds a degree in Bharatnatyam from Gyan Ashram, Institute of Performing Arts, Mumbai. He moved to Brazil in 1992 and at present serves as Professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Parana at Curitiba, Brazil. Professor holds a Masters Degree in Social Anthropology from Federal University of Parana, Brazil and Doctorate in Sciences of Religion.

Workshop on “Techniques in Biology” for PU Students

The Departments of Biological Science, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), organize a Hands-on Workshop on ‘Techniques in Biology’ for the Pre-University students of Dakshina Kannada District on 2nd and 3rd August 2019. The inauguration of the workshop will be held at Fr Robert Sequeira Hall, LCRI Block. Dr Vasudeva Kamath K, Deputy Director In-charge, Pre-University Education, D.K. will be the Chief Guest. Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, will preside over the programme. This programme is sponsored by the Star College Scheme, Dept of Biotechnology, Govt of India. Twenty colleges with 125 students participate in the workshop.
