Patriotic Spirit mark Republic day Celebrations in Udupi

Udupi: Splendid cultural programmes by schoolchildren, an orderly parade by various contingents, and honouring achievers in various fields marked the 71st Republic Day celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi district stadium Ajjarkad Udupi here on Sunday January 26.

Basavaraj Bommai Minister for Home Department and also Udupi district minister incharge unfurled the national flag, delivered the Republic Day address and received the salute from the members of various troupes of police, NCC, NSS and Scouts and Guides.

Basavaraj Bommai recalled the freedom struggle, sacrifice of freedom fighters, the country’s sovereignty, rich and diverse culture, food production, development of science and technology, and other issues in his address. He underlined the development agenda of the State government and said that Chief Minister BSY has been implementing a series of welfare schemes for the uplift of the poor and downtrodden.

H Kempegowda (Joint Agricultural director) B K Kusumadhara (DC office), Ganesh K (Asst Director Fisheries), James D’Silva (Asst Project Director) Vishwanath (warden), Ram Mohan Hebbar (DC Office) K Ravishanker (Revenue Officer Kaup), Mahesh (PDO kadoor), B V Shivaram Rao (Health officer), Manjunath Naik (Health officer) were felicitated with Sarvothama Awards.

Students of various schools evoked patriotic feeling among large number of audience at the grounds with their colourful cultural programmes which highlighted India’s distinct character – unity in diversity.

Raghupati Bhat MLA Udupi, Dinakar Babu president Zilla Panchayat, Neetha Gururaj president TP, G Jagadeesha DC Udupi, Sadashiv Prabhu Additional DC, N Vishnuvardhan SP Udupi, Chethan R SP CSP, Preethi Gehalot CEO Udupi ZP, Kumarachandra Additional SP were present on the occasion.
