PFI protest: Cases filed against 26 members, 44 released

Mangaluru: “Twenty-six persons have been booked and the rest have been released”, said a member of the SDPI, here on April 4.

More than 70 protesters have been arrested for attempting to gherao the police commissioners office. Inspite of the request by DCP Law and Order Shantharaju to vacate the road and not cause problems for other road users, the protesters refused to budge causing a traffic jam on A B Shetty circle.

The police later resorted to Lathi charge and detained more than 70 persons who were sent to various police stations. Late in the evening after the meeting with the leaders of SDPI and PFI, the police released 44 persons.

SDPI said that it will call for a statewide protest and “Mangaluru Chalo” and the date will be announced later.
