Poll-bound Chhattisgarh’s foodgrain policy talked about in UN: Swaraj

Raipur: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday lauded the Raman Singh-led BJP government in Chhattisgarh, saying that the state’s foodgrain policy was much talked about in the United Nations.

“When I am abroad, I am often asked to name an Indian state where nobody goes hungry, and I mention Chhattisgarh,” Swaraj said, as she campaigned for BJP nominee Srichand Sundarani in the Raipur North assembly constituency.

In a two-phase poll on November 12 and November 20 in Chhattisgarh, the electorate will vote to constitute a 90-member assembly.

She also listed out the pro-poor schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, saying that the Ujjwala Yojana, under which free cooking gas connections are given to the poor women, was a step in the direction of women empowerment.
