Pramod Madhwaraj gives colourful start for ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’
Udupi: The three-day long ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’ focusing on adventure sports, culture, coastal cuisine and a variety of competitions organised by the district administration got off to a colourful start at the Malpe beach here on Friday, December 29.
Pramod Madhwaraj Udupi district minister in-charge and state sports, youth service minister Inaugurated the ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’ by lighting the lamp.
In his message, Pramod Madhwaraj said that Malpe is known to be one of the cleanest beaches in India. Malpe is the first beach to have the beach cleaning machine after the Mumbai beach. To develop the tourism industry in Udupi district we need to develop world-class amenities at the tourist attraction centre in Malpe.
“To promote adventure sports in the state, the sports department and General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure will be organising various adventure sports in 10 places in the state. This is the third of the ten such events that the academy is organizing in Collaboration with the Department of Tourism. 27 years ago in memory of my father we had organised the national-level boating and swimming competition in Malpe. After 27 years as a minister, I got the chance to organise the National Junior Open Water Swimming Championship, which would be held at Malpe beach, on December 30 and 31. This championship will be held here for the first time. After becoming the MLA of Udupi district I have been able to get Rs 20 crore grant for the Malpe beach. Rs 12 crores grant is allocated under the Bharath Darshan scheme, he added.
After the inaugural function Percussionist, Sivamani’s performance enthralled the tourists with a thrilling performance on the drums.
