Public to Inaugurate Pumpwell Flyover on Jan 1, 2020, at 4:00 pm – Fact-Finding Committee
Mangaluru: The Congress fact-finding committee visited the Pumpwell Flyover to check the progress of the flyover work here, on December 31.
Addressing the mediapersons MLC Ivan D’Souza said, “From the past 10 years the flyover construction work is in progress but has not yet been completed. Before three months the MP of DK Nalin Kumar Kateel had assured of inaugurating the flyover on January 1, 2020. We are here to check the progress of the flyover work, whether it is completed for inauguration on January 1”.
Ivan further said, “After seeing the progress of the work, we can say that there is no chance for the work to be completed by today evening. When we met the engineers on the spot they said that the work will take another three months to complete. People using this road are facing severe problems due to traffic congestion. Through the fact-finding committee, we have found that the work will not complete for another three more months. We want an answer from our MP regarding the completion of the work.”
Speaking to the mediapersons former Minister Ramanath Rai said, “The flyover work is going on from the past 10 years. The BJP government is fooling the people by giving dates for the inauguration. People should think about it. The MP of Dk says that because of the land encroachment process, the construction of the flyover was delayed which is not true. The MP of DK is least bothered to complete the work. Now the BJP is in power in the center, state and also the MCC but still, they are not showing any interest to complete the work. People should think of this delay in development work”.
Speaking to the mediapersons former MLA J R Lobo said, “The MP of DK has failed to complete the Pumpwell flyover, the development of the National Highways is part of the Central Government and it is the duty of the MPs too. But in Mangaluru from the past 10 years, the Pumpwell flyover work is in progress and even after 10 years, the work is not completed. People have protested for the delay in completing the flyover. The Nanthur junction also is unscientific but the MP is not raising his voice. The KPT Junction, Mangaluru – Karkala Highway work has been sanctioned long back but the MP is not interested to carry out the work. The Bajal underpass is in a pathetic condition. In Pumpwell because of the height of the flyover they are digging the road. The BJP has failed to carry out the development work in the District. The Congress is protesting in favour of the people against the unscientific work of the Pumpwell flyover. Now the people are not giving much importance to development work.”
Speaking to the mediapersons DCC President Harish Kumar said, “We are here to celebrate the decennial of Pumpwell flyover. We want the Pumpwell flyover to be completed soon. MP of DK Nalin Kumar Kateel has given different dates for the inauguration of the flyover but has failed to fulfil his promise every time. Last time he had called the media persons and finalized the date of the inauguration on January 1. But again he has failed in his promise. The Pumpwell flyover work should be completed by January 31, if the MP fails to do it, we will gheroe the PWD Engineers office on February 1. We don’t need such an office in Mangaluru”.
Ivan warned the MP if he fails to inaugurate the Flyover on January 1, 2020, by 4 pm, as a protest the public will inaugurate the Pumpwell flyover.
Former minister Abhaychandra Jain, corporators, and congress leaders were also present.
