Railways collects Rs 2.33 lakh fine from 654 passengers travelling without ticket

 
Passengers with unreserved tickets may travel only in de-reserved coaches besides general compartments

Mangaluru : Officials of Palakkad Railway Division conducted a special ticket checking drive on trains on Kannur-Mangaluru section for two days last week and collected Rs 2.33 lakh fine from 654 passengers travelling without tickets. A release from the division here said that Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami had ordered the special drive that was led by Assistant Commercial Manager S. Sunil Kumar and 15 ticket checking staff along with Railway Protection Force personnel.

During the drive, it was found that unreserved/ season ticket holders were increasingly entering into reserved coaches. Ticket checking wing has clarified that travelling in reserved coaches with unreserved ticket was not permitted and such passengers would be penalized according to the ticket checking rule. A minimum fine of Rs 250, in addition to fare calculated as per rules would be collected from such passengers.

De-reserved Coaches :

Passengers holding de-reserved sleeper class tickets and season ticket holders may travel in de-reserved coaches besides general compartments.

The details of the de-reserved coaches provided on trains are:

Train No 16629 Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru Central Malabar Express: Coach No S-4 and S-5, Kannur-Mangaluru Section.

Train No 16348 Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Express: Coach No S-6, Mangaluru-Kozhikode section.

Train No 12601 Chennai Central-Mangaluru Central Mail: Coach No S-9, S-10 and S-11, Kozhikode-Mangaluru Section.

Train No 12602 Mangaluru Central-Chennai Central Mail: Coach No S-9, S-10, S-11, Mangaluru Central-Kozhikode section.

Train No 16528 Kannur-Yeswantpur Express: Coach No S-9, S-10, S-11, Kannur-Kozhikode section.

Train No 16159 Chennai Egmore-Mangaluru Central Express: Coach No S-8, Tiruchhirappalli-Mangaluru Central section.

Train No 16160 Mangaluru Central-Chennai Egmore Express: Coach No S-7, Mangaluru Central-Tiruchhirappalli section and No S-8 to S-11 in the Mangaluru Central-Karur section.

The release said that efforts were made to popularise UTS on Mobile App for buying unreserved tickets duly educating passengers. The App enables passengers to buy tickets when they are within a 5 km radius of a station. At the same time, tickets cannot be bought within 25 metres of a railway track or a station because the App would not be functional within these limits as it is brought under Geo-fencing to prevent misuse.
