Rape and Murder of Woman: Kundapur’s First-ever Noose Verdict

Kundapur: In what is regarded as the first-ever case in Kundapur, Satish Poojary of Hemmadi, has served with a death verdict for sexual assault followed by her murder, committed about six years ago.

The additional district additional sessions judge Rajashekhar V Patil held him guilty and passed the judgement on Thursday.

Satish, a married man, owned a fancy goods shop in Hemmadi. He reportedly had an illicit relationship with a young woman. When pressure mounted on him regarding his future plans about her, he is said to have found an easier way out by getting rid of her.

He was charged with murdering her on Trasi beach and then keeping her body in his car parked in the middle of the town the whole day long. In the night, he took the body and dumped it at the Kulur cross near Noojadi.

The then-circle inspector Madan V Gaonkar had filed a charge-sheet. As many as 28 witnesses had deposed in the court. Public prosecutor Srinivas Hegde argued the prosecution case. The judgement is being sent to the state high court for confirmation.
