Lisbon, June 2 (IANS) Spanish football giants Real Madrid are determined to retain their midfielder Casemiro after loaning him for one season to Portuguese side FC Porto, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Reports suggest that the Spanish club “refuses to sell” the Brazilian, 23, after a brilliant showing for Porto, reports Efe.

According to the reports, Real Madrid’s new coach Rafael Benitez will determine the player’s future in the squad.

Porto formally conveyed to Real Madrid on May 28 its intention to exercise the right to keep the Brazilian international on a permanent basis.

A spokesman for Porto has confirmed that the agreement reached in the summer of 2014 included a clause that allowed for the Portuguese club to sign Casemiro on a permanent basis in exchange for a sum, which the spokesman declined to disclose.
