Record 54 deaths, over 2K Covid cases registered in K’taka
 

Bengaluru: Karnataka registered a record 2,062 Covid positive cases, more than half of which emerged from Bengaluru, raising the state’s tally to 28,877, even as a record 54 people succumbed to the virus, health officials said on Wednesday.

“New cases reported from Tuesday 5 p.m. to Wednesday 5 p.m., 2,062,” said a health official.

As many as 1,148 or 56 per cent of the cases surfaced in Bengaluru alone, the southern state’s Covid pandemic ground zero.

Overall, the city accounts for 10,103 or 61 per cent of all the active cases in the state.

Among the new cases, excluding Bengaluru, Daskshina Kannada accounted for 183 infections, followed by Dharwad (89), Kalaburagi (66), Ballari and Mysuru (59 each) and Bengaluru Rural (37) among others.

On a positive note, record 778 patients got discharged, increasing the total discharges to 11,876.

However, total number of cases in ICU rose to 452.

Though the total number of cases in Karnataka escalated to 28,877, active cases stood at 16,527 and total deaths increased to 470.
