Red Alert : Holiday Declared for Schools and PU Colleges on July 8 in Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru: In view of the Red Alert issued for Dakshina Kannada district following forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) predicting continued heavy rainfall across the district, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has announced several precautionary measures.
As a precaution, a holiday has been declared on July 8, 2026 (Wednesday) for all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, residential schools, and Pre-University (PU) colleges (up to Class 12) across the district.
The district administration has directed all educational institutions not to conduct classes on the said day. Any violation of the order will attract legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Parents have been advised to ensure that children do not venture near low-lying areas, lakes, rivers, or seashores where water levels may pose a danger.
The administration has also instructed fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice due to adverse weather conditions.
District- and taluk-level officials have been directed to remain at their respective headquarters and ensure effective disaster management. They have also been instructed to respond promptly to public grievances and maintain continuous communication with the District Control Room.
Tourists and members of the public have been advised not to visit riverbanks or beaches during the Red Alert period.
Concerned government departments have been instructed to establish relief centres in every taluk and remain fully prepared to handle any emergency arising out of the prevailing weather conditions.
The District Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to contact the designated emergency helpline numbers in case of any disaster-related emergency or assistance.
