Rotary Vandana Awards Conferred on Jayaram Bhat and Manohar Prasad

Mangaluru: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Apart from these thought-provoking quotes, the great physicist Dr Albert Einstein once said, ” Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible”, and this has been true in the life of these achievers namely Jayaram Bhat- Eminent Banker, Managing Director of Karnataka Bank and Manohar Prasad-Chief of News Bureau Udayavani Kannada daily, who were conferred with the Rotary Annual State level prestigious “Vandana Award” at a function held on 24 March 2017 at Hotel Moti Mahal.

This Award is jointly instituted by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central and Rotaract Club of Mangaluru City. Briefing about the Vandana awards, Dr Devdas Rai said, ” Both the Rotary Club of Mangalore Central and Rotaract Club of Mangalore City have been awarding the “Vandana Award” to achievers in life for their lifetime achievements since 2004. This novel idea implemented by Rotaract Club, was later joined by Rotary Club. In the past many achievers have been the recipients of Vandana award – to name a few, Justice Santhosh Hegde (2007-08), Padmashree Chnadrashekar BS (2008-09), Gurukiran (2009-10), Padmashree Kadri Gopalnath (2010-11), A J Shetty (2011-12), Kasargod Chinna and Mobility Centre for the Blind (2012-13); Dr BR Shetty (2013-14); Javagal Srinath (2014-15); and Dr Shashikiran Shetty (2015-16). Dr Rai congratulated Jayaram Bhat on his unique achievements in the Banking Sector and Manohar Prasad for his invaluable contributions in the field of journalism.

The official bulletin of Rotary Club of Mangalore Central – “Centor” was released during the occasion by Zonal lieutenant Rtn. Elias Sanctis, followed by the introduction of the awardees by Rtn Dr Nanda Kishore, who said that Jayaram Bhat an iconic figure is an inspiration to all of us. Then came the most important part of the occasion to honour the two stalwarts with the “Vandana Award -2014”, which was done by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil Mayor -, the awards comprising of a shawl, fruit basket, garland and a memento. The award was presented to Bhat in recognition of his exemplary achievements in the field of Banking and to Prasad in appreciation of his significant life time contributions in the field of Journalism.

After being honoured with “Vandana Award”, Jayaram Bhat addressing the august gathering said, “Although I have received quite a few awards in the past, but this is the greatest moment in my life to accept this award from the Rotarians. The success in my life is mainly due to my simplicity and hard work and also helping the community through social work. We need to use our money wisely, there is no value for money if it is not utilised properly. To come up successfully in life, you should be polite, hard working, simple and associate with community projects. Through my friendship, clean heart and selfless community service I have won the hearts of many people. I am truly blessed to receive this Vandana Award”

Manohar Prasad after being honoured said that he deemed it as an honour to accept the Award, which he feels very valuable among the awards he already received. He thanked the Rotary Club for presenting this award, which was the best award among the other awards that he has received in the past. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Mayor Kavitha complimented both the awardees, Bhat and Prasad, for their contribution to the community in the banking sector and journalism respectively, and wished them all success in their future endeavours. President of Rotary Club-Mangalore central Rtn. Anil Gonsalves, presided, while Rotary Club Secretary Rtn. Raymond D’Cunha, Rotaract Dist Representative Rtr. Miss Hitaishi, Rotaract Club President Rtr. Yathish Salian were also present on the dais. Rotaract Club Secretary Rtr. Shivprasad delivered the Vote of Thanks.
