Sahyadri College Signs MoU with RV Skills to Strengthen Semiconductor Design Education

  • Collaboration to enhance industry-oriented training in VLSI, ASIC design, RTL verification, and advanced chip design technologies

Mangaluru: The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RV Skills Design Centre, Bengaluru, to strengthen semiconductor education, specialised skill development and industry–academia collaboration.

The partnership aims to equip undergraduate (B.E.) and postgraduate (M.Tech.) students with industry-relevant skills in emerging semiconductor technologies through specialised training, hands-on learning and collaborative initiatives. Key focus areas include Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) design, Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design, Register Transfer Level (RTL) verification, physical design, and embedded systems.

Dr. Anush Bekal, Professor and Head of the Department of ECE at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, highlighted the importance of strengthening industry–academia collaboration to prepare students for emerging opportunities in the semiconductor sector. He emphasised the department’s commitment to giving students practical exposure, specialised technical skills, and opportunities to engage with evolving semiconductor design practices.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Basavaraj Nagaraju, Chief Executive Officer of RV Skills Design Centre, and Kaushik Bk, Senior Design Engineer at the centre. The event was witnessed by Krishna Hegde, Trustee and Administrator of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management; Dr. Sidramappa Injaganeri, Principal; and Megha Narayana, Faculty Coordinator, Department of ECE. Faculty members and students of the department were also present.

The collaboration is expected to provide students with greater exposure to semiconductor design practices and evolving industry requirements while creating opportunities for specialised learning, technical capacity building, and innovation. It also aims to develop a skilled workforce for the semiconductor industry, which is gaining strategic importance in India’s technology and manufacturing landscape.

Sahyadri ECE has been actively strengthening its semiconductor education and innovation ecosystem through engagements with industry and technology partners, including KARMIC DESIGN Pvt. Ltd., Anmaya Technologies, iWave and VLSI System Design (VSD), among others. These initiatives complement the department’s focus on specialised academic programmes, practical design experience, applied research and industry-oriented engineering education.

The partnership aligns with India’s growing ambitions in semiconductor design and manufacturing and the increasing need for skilled engineers to support the expanding electronics and semiconductor ecosystem. Through such institutional collaborations, Sahyadri aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations while encouraging students to pursue advanced design, research, and innovation.

The institution acknowledged the encouragement and support of its Chairman, Manjunath Bhandary, and M. P. Shyam, President of RV Institutions, whose leadership and vision have supported collaborative initiatives in technical education.

The MoU marks another step in Sahyadri ECE’s efforts to strengthen semiconductor education and prepare future engineers for opportunities in chip design and advanced electronics, contributing to India’s long-term semiconductor ambitions.
