New York, Sep 5 (IANS) India’s Leander Paes endured mixed fortunes while Sania Mirza lost her mixed doubles match at the US Open here.

Fourth seeded mixed doubles duo of Paes and Martina Hingis displayed dominant form to down American pair of Claire Liu Taylor Harry Fritz 6-2, 6-2 in only 46 minutes to advance to the second round of the category.

The experienced Indo-Swiss pair on Friday barely broke into a sweat while winning the contest to set up a second round match-up with unseeded Canadian-Australian pair of Eugenie Bouchard and Nick Kyrgios.

Second seeded Rohan Bopanna and his Chinese Taipei’s Yung-Jan Chan advanced to the second round in the mixed doubles category, beating Spanish-Swiss pair of Fernando Verdasco and Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-4 in 58 minutes.

The match was well contested but the Indo-Chinese Taipei pair emerged victorious in the crucial phases of the match, winning 59 of the total 113 points played, to claim the contest.

They will next face unseeded Russian-Austrian team of Alla Kudryavtseva and Alexander Peya in the second round.

But Sania couldn’t follow the footsteps of his two male compatriots.

Sania and Brazilian Bruno Soares, the top seeds, bowed 3-6, 3-6 to Czech Republic’s Andrea Hlavackova and Poland’s Lukasz Kubot in only 63 minutes in the opening round of the event.

They were second best from the beginning of the match and conceded the first set in 32 minutes and the second one in 31 minutes.

The winning pair won 58 of the 99 points played.

However in the men’s doubles category, Paes and Spaniard Verdasco lost a keenly-fought second round match but eventually succumbed 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 to American duo of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey.

The see-saw contest stretched for two hours and two minutes and the Americans claimed 103 points as against 99 by the Indo-Spanish pair.
