Santhosh D’Silva, Karkala Elected President of Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers Association
Mangaluru: At the 65th Annual General Meeting of The Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers Association held on 25th September 2020, Shri. Santhosh D’Silva, M/s. Santhosh Cashews, Karkala, was elected as the President for the year 2020-21 unanimously. In his acceptance speech he reiterated the need to focus efforts on increasing raw cashew nut production as the Cashew Processing Industry in Karnataka is growing at 20% year on year.
At the 65 th AGM, members expressed thier happiness at the central government legislation on Farmers Produce Trade and commerce Act ( promotion and facilitation) to control the trade outside the market yard. APMC had been a major obstacle for the growth of raw cashew trade in DK, Udupi & North Canara districts and all cargos were getting diverted to tuticorin port to avoid the regulation which was not only collecting the fee but also a major harassment to traders in general. With the de- regulation of APMC, New Mangalore would be active attracting a lot of cargo to Mangalore as it will now become a major hub for raw cashew nut trade.
KCMA also decided to focus on indigenous raw cashew nut production by getting more more area under cashew cultivation in Karnataka and participate in the clarion call of our Prime minister – Vocal for Local .
