Seat belt and Helmet Mandatory in Udupi district – SP Nisha James

Udupi: Helmets and seat belts will be made mandatory in Udupi district, said Superintendent of Police (Udupi District) Nisha James.

Speaking to media persons, SP Nisha James said that riding two-wheelers where both the rider and pillion rider are not wearing helmets is an offence. The other offences, that are more in number, are driving without wearing the seat belts. Most of the fatal cases involving two-wheelers are due to head injuries. When wearing a helmet can save a life, why not wear it.

Wearing a helmet while riding a bike and tying seat belts for drivers of four-wheelers, are a must for our own safety. People should be aware of it and they need to take precaution to save their own lives as well as the lives of their dependents, she appealed.

Now, the helmet rule has been made compulsory for both the two-wheeler rider and the pillion rider as well. Seat belts have also been made compulsory for drivers. The department will also continue to create awareness among the public on the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, she said.
