Second PU Exams Begin in 27 Centres across Udupi District

Udupi: The second year pre-university examinations began smoothly in the district on Thursday, March 1.

In all, 16074 students from the district are appearing in 27 centres for the examinations, which will go on until March 17. The number of fresh candidates taking up the exams is 14550. There are 597 repeaters and 927 private candidates. As many as 1647 students are from the arts stream, 8706 from commerce, and 5721 from science streams. Of the total number of candidates appearing for the exams, as many as 8257 are girls and 7817 boys. All exams will be held between 10:15 am and 1:30 pm.

To avoid malpractices, the department has appointed squads at the district and taluk levels. Along with this, special sitting squads have been deputed at each centre. For security purposes, section no. 144 has been proclaimed within a radius of 200 meters of each exam centre. Gathering in groups or any other activities disturbing the peace near the exam centres have also been banned. CCTV cameras are placed inside the examination halls in order to prevent any sort of unethical practice.

Strict orders have been issued to the staff banning them from carrying mobile phones into the centres. Only the chief superintendent of the centre is exempt from this ban. This year, the department has also decided to install GPS in vehicles that will be transporting question papers from the district treasuries to the examination centres.

Question papers will be dispatched from the district headquarters to all the exam centres on the day of the examination.
