Section 144 Imposed in Mangaluru Commissionerate from Dec 18 to 20

Mangaluru: In connection with the implementation of NRC and CAB, many organisations are planning to hold protest in the city. On December 16, CFI members held a protest without obtaining permission from the police and blocked the road causing inconvenience to the public. Since there are possibilities of similar protests in Mangaluru. As a precautionary measure section 144 has been imposed in the Mangaluru City police commissionerate from December 18 night 9.00 pm to December 20 midnight″, stated police commissioner Dr Harsha in a press statement issued on December 18.

Section 144 has been imposed from December 18 from 9:00 pm to December 20, midnight in the Mangaluru Commissionerate.

With the Section 144 in place, gathering of more than five persons at one place, carrying any weapons and activities disturbing the peace have been banned.

Dr Harsha stated that after the central government implemented CAB 2019, students of Jamia Millia Islamia University protested and violated the law. To maintain the law and order the police have taken action. On December 16, the Campus Front of India protested against the attack on Jamia Millia students and blocked the road near Balmatta. We have information that various organisations are planning to hold a protest on December 19 and have called students from all the organisations to participate in the protest. We have information that various organisations have called for a bundh on December 19. The Mangaluru Commissionerate is a very sensitive area and there are chances of protests and processions being held which will affect the normal life of the people. To avoid any untoward incidents from taking place, section 144 has been imposed.
