Section 144 imposed in Udupi District from August 4 to 6 ahead of Bhumi Pujan in Ayodhya

Udupi: Udupi District Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh imposed prohibitory orders in the commissionerate limits, under CrPC 144, from August 4 (8 pm) to August 6 (6 am) on Tuesday, August 4.

On request of the district SP, the deputy commissioner decided to clamp prohibitory orders to prevent any untoward incidents likely to take place during the Bhoomi Pujan being planned at the site of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) bans the gatherings of four or more persons. No processions, either in favour or against the event, will be allowed.

Government-sponsored programmes are exempted from the prohibitory orders. Those violating the prohibitory orders will be dealt with sternly, warned the deputy commissioner.

The deputy commissioner has also announced a dry day in the district banning liquor from August 4 (8 pm) to August 6 (6 am).
