Shiroor Swamiji enters politics, plans to contest Assembly elections as an Independent candidate

Udupi: In a surprising move Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math decided to enter Karnataka politics.

Briefing to the media persons at Shiroor Math near Harikandige, the Swamiji said that we are actively involved in social service and religious work. Many people have been encouraging me to contest the elections this time. After discussing with my supporters and devotees I have decided to enter politics. I have decided to contest as an Independent candidate from Udupi constituency in the coming assembly elections.

Present MLA Pramod Madhwaraj had done tremendous development work in the Udupi Constituency. The present Udupi BJP leaders are not active in fulfilling the demands of the people. I am not against any party but we need clean and hard-working politicians. If BJP gives me a chance I am also ready to contest as a BJP candidate, he added.
