SIR Draft Electoral Roll: Notices to 1.5 Lakh Voters in Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru: As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process currently underway across Karnataka, the draft electoral roll published for Dakshina Kannada district has recorded a total of 16,46,387 voters, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. said on Sunday.
Notices will be served through Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) to 1,50,153 voters whose names were left out of the draft electoral roll. The omissions have been attributed to several reasons, including non-mapping with earlier rolls, changes in names or parents’ names, and discrepancies in age-related details.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the distribution of notices will commence on August 24 and continue until September 23. During this period, voters whose names have been excluded from the draft roll will be allowed to submit claims and objections before the concerned authorities.
The notices will specify the date, time and venue of the hearing. BLOs will deliver the notices directly to the voters’ residences within the stipulated period. If a voter is unable to appear before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) with a written representation within the period mentioned in the notice, an additional opportunity will be granted. However, failure to appear even during the extended period may result in deletion of the name from the electoral roll, Darshan H.V. said.
He added that voters attending the hearing must carry the required details duly filled in the prescribed form. They may also upload the relevant documents online, though physical appearance before the ERO or AERO remains mandatory.
Explaining the documentary requirements, the Deputy Commissioner said that persons born before July 1, 1987, must furnish proof establishing their date of birth and/or place of birth. Those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, must submit proof of their own date or place of birth, along with documents establishing the date or place of birth of either their father or mother.

At present, one Electoral Registration Officer and one Assistant Electoral Registration Officer are functioning for each Assembly constituency in Dakshina Kannada district. A proposal has been submitted to the Election Commission seeking the appointment of 154 additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and approval is expected within a day or two, the Deputy Commissioner said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju K., Director of Urban Development Planning Dr. Santosh Kumar, and Mangaluru City Corporation Chief Accounts Officer Akshatha were present at the press briefing.
Darshan H.V. also clarified that receiving a notice does not mean a voter’s name will automatically be deleted from the electoral roll. He said some voters whose names appeared in the electoral roll up to June 2026 may have been left out of the draft roll because their names could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral roll or changes in names and other discrepancies.
“There is no need for voters to panic unnecessarily if they receive a notice,” he said, assuring that authorities would verify the necessary documents and take steps to include all eligible voters in the final electoral roll.
