SKDRDP: Movement Against Alcohol

“It is not how much we give, but how much love we are putting to it”- Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme (SKDRDP) has set up a stall to spread awareness about their trust to the public during Lakshadeepotsava. SKDRDP conducts around 8 programmes that include agriculture, community development, women empowerment, etc. which comes under ‘Akhila Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike’ headed by Dr. D Veerendra Hegde. There are about 10 stalls of SKDRDP and one among them is SDM De-addiction and Research Centre.

SKDRDP in its experience has found that addiction to liquor is a major bone for poor people. To wean away the working classes from liquor, SKDRDP through support from the public has promoted ‘Jana Jagruthi’ a movement against alcoholism. The main objective of this stall is to spread awareness to foster a movement against alcohol and substance abuse. More than 5000 people visited the stall and educated themselves about the ‘Jana Jagruthi’ programme.

The activities of Jana Jagruthi Vedike helps people to De-addict from alcohol. Awareness meetings, Family counselling, other activities like Yoga, Pranayama, Sports, Bhajans, give them much love and help them to come out of those bad habits. SKDRDP has also achieved by organising 1408 De-addiction camps and 97,826 addicts were treated in 30 districts of the state. More than 97,000 people have given up drinking through de-addiction camps and with self-motivation, they have started working in different sectors.

This is a good step taken by the trust which helps many people to get out of this addiction and work on their own, this even helps their families who are suffering financially.
