Stop Collecting Admission Fee or Face Action – DPI to School Administration

Mangaluru: There are complaints from the parents that the School administration is pressurizing them to pay their children’s fees for the year 2020-21.  Many have complained to the education minister to intervene and stop the schools from collecting the admission fees. In this regard, the Department of Public Instruction has issued a circular to the schools to stop collecting admission fees for the year 2020-21 until further orders.

On March 30, the commissioner of the Department of Public Instruction issued a circular to all the schools not to collect students’ admission fees as the country is facing the coronavirus pandemic. On March 24, a circular was issued to the school administrations to stop the admission of children for the year 2020-21 with a warning that action would be taken against the schools under the provisions of Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 if any school violated the order. But many schools violated the government order and sent emails, SMS to parents to pay the admission fees before the last date.

In view of the present situation,  the government has ordered the schools to stop collecting admission fees for the year 2020-21 until further orders. If the school administrations fail to follow the government guidelines,  criminal cases will be filed against the management under the provisions of Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the same would be published for the information of the public.
