Barkur: A scholarship examination will be held on November 1 at Sujnana National Pre-University College in Barkur, jointly organised by Barkur Education Society (Reg.) and Sujnana Educational Trust, Kundapura, with the aim of providing quality education to talented students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Ramesh Shetty, chairman of Sujnana Educational Trust, said the institution aims to provide quality pre-university education and competitive examination coaching to rural students close to their homes.

During the previous academic year, scholarships totalling ₹9.40 lakh were awarded to 45 of the 100 students admitted to the first-year Pre-University course. Students in the science stream are provided coaching for CET, NEET and JEE, while commerce students can receive training for CA and CS examinations, he said.

Bharat Shetty, treasurer of Sujnana Educational Trust, said students who received scholarships last year had secured admission to medical and engineering colleges. Sameed Paris, who was admitted under the free-education scheme, secured an MBBS seat under the government quota at Mysore Medical College.

He said the scholarship programme aims not only to support economically disadvantaged students but also to encourage and nurture academic talent.

Students currently studying in Class 10 under the state, CBSE or ICSE curricula, in either Kannada or English medium, are eligible to appear for the examination. The test will cover the syllabus taught up to the mid-term examinations and will include both OMR-based and descriptive questions.

Students are required to report to the college campus at 10.30 a.m. on November 1. Before the examination, they must register by sending their name, address, school name and a copy of their Aadhaar card through WhatsApp to the mobile number specified by the institution. A Google Form facility will also be available for registration.
