Teachers Have the Power to Shape the Builders of the Nation: Minister U.T. Khader
Mangaluru: Just as parents play a crucial role in helping an individual attain great heights, teachers too have an equally significant role in shaping their lives, said Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader.
“Teachers possess the power to shape the builders of the nation,” he said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Mangaluru North Education Zone at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in the city on Saturday. The programme was organised under the leadership of the Dakshina Kannada District Administration and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, in association with various departments.
Minister Khader said that only teachers have the ability to transform students into a great force through education. “If teachers dedicate their intelligence and talent to nurturing students, the nation can create an extraordinary wealth of human resources,” he said.
Expressing concern over the increasing involvement of educated people in criminal activities, he said that education alone was not sufficient and stressed the need for value-based education in the present times.
“In the era of modern technology, teachers are compelled to constantly learn and update themselves. They need to keep pace with technological developments and adapt themselves to the changing needs of students. If teachers fail to adapt to these changes, their professional lives may become increasingly challenging,” he said.
Speaking about the growing emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Khader said teachers should embrace technology while continuing to remain close to their students and connected with society.
On the occasion, 21 teachers from primary, upper primary and high schools across Dakshina Kannada district were honoured with the Best Teacher Award. Retired teaching and non-teaching staff from the Mangaluru North Education Zone were also felicitated.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, MUDA Chairman Santosh Shetty, Cashew Development Corporation Chairperson Mamatha D.S. Gatti, Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board Chairman Shalet Pinto, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., Zilla Panchayat CEO Vinayak Kharbari, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Rathnam Pandey, Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, DDPI G.S. Shashidhar and Mangaluru North Zone BEO James Cutinha, along with office-bearers of teachers’ associations, were present.
Manjula Shetty compered the programme. A cultural programme presented by teachers was held before the formal function.
In association with the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre at Wenlock Hospital, a large number of teachers also voluntarily donated blood.
