Thief boards train to escape, Bengaluru police take flight to arrest him

BENGALURU: Twenty-one-year-old Kushal Singh, who worked as a helper at a Bengaluru-based businessman’s house, dreamt of making it big when he allegedly stole gold jewellery from his employer’s place and boarded a train in Rajasthan. But Kushal was in for a shock when Bengaluru police ‘welcomed’ him at the railway station there. While Kushal took three days to reach Rajasthan by train, cops took the flight and landed there before him.

Kushal started working at businessman Mehak V Piragal’s residence located at Basavanagudi on the day of Diwali (October 27). He was recommended by a family friend. At 7.30pm the same evening, the family asked Kushal to guard the house and left to perform puja at their garment shop at Chickpet. On returning home around 9pm, they found the house ransacked and gold ornaments missing from the wardrobe. Kushal too was at large.

Mehak immediately informed police, who swung into action. On going through Kushal’s call detail record (CDR), police found that he was travelling. Further probe revealed he had taken a train to Ajmer. Soon, police took a flight and reached Jaipur and from there travelled to Ajmer. Three days after the incident, Kushal reached Ajmer. As soon as he landed at the railway station, cops confronted him and took him into custody. Later, they flew him back to Bengaluru.

The nimble-footed cops ensured Kushal didn’t have enough time to sell or pledge the gold ornaments he stole from Mehak’s house. “This was Kushal’s first visit to Bengaluru and he doesn’t have any criminal record. He wanted to make a quick buck and lead a happy life, but chose the wrong path,” said police.
