Total Lockdown in DK District on March 28 – Kota Srinivas Poojary

Mangaluru: “All the commercial activities will be completely closed on March 28.  Already 7 positive cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada. In the neighbouring Kerela state (Kasaragod) and Uttara Kannada district COVID-19, positive cases are increasing day by day. If restrictions are not imposed for commercial activities people will come out of their houses to buy essential supplies”, said the district minister in-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary during a meeting held at the DC office on March 27.

During the discussions, Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “If we do not restrict the movement of the people, there will be chances of spreading the virus and that will pose a serious threat to the people of Dakshina Kannada. For the betterment of the people, we need to restrict the commercial activities in the district and observe a total lockdown on March 28.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel,  MLAs, Zilla Panchayat president, Mayor, and the senior officers supported the decision of the minister and decided to call for a complete shut down of all the commercial activities on March 28.

  1. The lockdown is being enforced effectively by the police department. But what about the district administration and local govt ensuring that essential supplies reach the public. The main reason for many cases in Kerala being reported that is that they have rigorous testing and mass quarantine. Can we confidently say that all the cases in DK have been detected ? DO we have such rigorous testing ? Kerala imposed a lockdown first in the country but they still manage to ensure supply of essentials , emergency transport to the public, good healthcare etc.
