Truck Hauling an Earth Mover brings Down Cable Wires and Telephone Poles

Mangaluru: Whether the Driver of the Truck should be blamed for bringing down cable wires and telephone poles or blame the workers of the TV Cable company for having the cable wires hang so low across the road- Probably the answer will be, both should be blamed for carelessness and negligence. Slacken and hanged so low TV cable wires of “Reliance Cable Co” in front of ‘Inland Windsors’ on Airport Road near Bondel, a truck hauling a Caterpillar Earth Moving Machine (just like JCB) traveling on that road got caught up in cable wires, ripping it in two, thereby also knocking down two BSNL telephone poles since the cable wires were tied to these poles. And due to this incident a number of residents in that area couldn’t make calls from landlines, and also couldn’t watch TV relayed through Reliance cable- and since cable wires of V4 TV Channel were also damaged in this freak incident, that TV channel was also not available in that area.

Neighbour Sushma who lives very close where the incident happen speaking to Team Mangaloreansaid, “I was washing clothes, and suddenly I saw the cable wires coming down, and also heard about two loud crashes and bangs when the telephone crashed.Turns out a truck carrying a huge machinery was heading down the road and since the height of the load was high, the truck started grabbing wires and poles that came with them. The driver came through the cable wire that he didn’t see it hanging, and he took the rest of wires and telephone poles down. The driver I guess I was not aware of it, but only after my husband yelled loudly about his fault, he stopped the truck few feet away”.

Truck driver Narasimhan, hailing from Tamilnadu but employed with a local trucking company said, ” During the early morning I didn’t see the low hanging cable wires. I was transporting this earth moving machine to Mangalore International Airport-Bajpe, and due to the height of the load the wires got entangled and snapped, thereby also knocking down two telephone poles since the wires were tied to them. I have informed my employer, who will be here soon. Seems like not a good morning for me”. In the meantime, Team Mangalorean dialed 100 and informed the cops about the incident- who only showed up in 20 minutes. Getting all the information from the driver, and also interacting with concerned Cable company staff, the cops have registered a case.

In conclusion, this is not the first of its kind case, in the past there have been accidents of cable wires, electric wires hanging low being ripped off by vehicles carrying loads with over the limit height. And in spite of all these past cases, we can still notice quite a few cable wires still hanging low across the roads, or along the side streets. Seems like Mescom or these TV Cable companies have no plans to either take them underground or aerially bunch them. And specially during brief spells of rain coupled with wind are enough to bring down these wires that are hanging dangerously low. But sadly, there is little progress in implementing solutions to tackle these problems.
