Two Arrested for Attempting to Cheat Court Using Fake Aadhaar Card During Bail Process
Udupi: Udupi Town Police arrested two persons for allegedly creating a fake Aadhaar card and appearing before the court as a surety in another person’s name during a bail process, in an attempt to deceive the court.
The arrested persons were identified as Ummar Farooq of Bantwal and Nishanth Kumar of Mangaluru. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
A case was registered at the Udupi Town Police Station based on a complaint filed by Abbas, Administrative Officer of the Udupi District and Sessions Court, on August 13.
According to the complaint, while bail proceedings were underway for an accused named Noman in a case pending before the Udupi District and Sessions Court, Farooq allegedly used the Aadhaar number belonging to Prashanth to create a fake Aadhaar card bearing the name and address of K. T. Mohammed.
The complaint alleged that the accused prepared the fake Aadhaar card and, posing as another person for personal benefit, produced it before the court during the bail proceedings to deceive the court. The alleged act was an attempt to cheat K. T. Mohammed and Prashanth, genuine holders of the respective identity records, the complaint stated.
A case has been registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Crime No. 110/2026, invoking various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with other relevant legal provisions. An investigation is underway.
Following directions from senior police officers, a special team was formed to trace the accused under the guidance of Udupi Town Police Station Inspector Mahesh Prasad P. The team was led by Sub-Inspector (Investigation-2) Ratnakar K.
ASI Lokesh; Head Constables Santosh and Jagannath Naik; police personnel Anand and Anandayya; and Manipal Police Station personnel Mallaiah Hiremath and Hemanth, along with other Udupi Town Police Station personnel, assisted in the operation.
