Two Arrested for Smuggling Cigarettes worth Rs 8 Lakhs at Kannur Airport

Kerala: The Customs officials at the Kannur International Airport detected and apprehended two persons on May 14 for smuggling prohibited cigarettes that were foreign-made.

The two passengers – Hamza Moideen Kunhi and Muhammad Ameer Suhail who are both natives of Kasaragod – arrived from Abu Dhabi in a Go-Air flight.

They had concealed these cigarettes in their checked-in baggage. The total quantity of cigarettes seized is 520 cartons, valued at around Rs 8.50 lakhs.

However, the alert officers led by Assistant Commissioner Madhusoodan Bhat caught both the accused. A case has beein registered against Hamza and Muhammed Ameer.

This is the first-ever case of cigarette smuggling registered at Kannur airport.
