Udhampur braveheart Rocky’s family gets compensation

Chandigarh, Sep 29 (IANS) The family of Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Rocky, who died after bravely fighting terrorists in the Udhampur terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir last month, was on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs.20 lakh as financial assistance.

The cheque was handed over here by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Rocky’s father, Pritpal, and mother Angrejo Devi.

Born on September 15, 1990, Rocky, a resident of village Ramgarh Majra, Bilaspur, in district Yamunanagar, joined the BSF in 2012 and was serving in the 59th Battalion.

He attained martyrdom during an encounter with militant at Simroli, 17 km from Udhampur on August 5, 2015, a state government spokesman said here.

Khattar also assured a government job to one member of the family on the basis of eligibility.

Rocky was killed as he bravely fought two terrorists and killed one of them when a BSF bus was ambushed near Udhampur on August 5. His heroic act saved the lives of over 40 unarmed BSF personnel sitting in the bus.

One of the terrorists was later overpowered by locals and handed over to security forces.
