Udupi: Distribution of Funds to Specific Ward Dominates CMC General Meeting

Udupi: War of words between the ruling and opposition members of the CMC was witnessed over the media statement issued by Janardhan Bhandarkar on the guidelines framed to distribute funds to a specific ward preferred by the ruling party. In the general meeting organized at Sathyamurthy Auditorium in the CMC here on October 30. The opposition questioned Janardhan Bhandarkar’s right to issue media statements which is authorised only to the president and CMC Commissioner.

Janardhan Bhandarkar said that he has only spoken of the guidelines formulated to distribute funds under the 14th Finance Commission. The opposition then demanded for the guidelines to be presented in the CMC meeting. CMC Commissioner Manjunathayya said that the guidelines were issued for the distribution of funds under the 14th Finance Commission. “The funds under the 14th Finance Commission are allotted to focus on asset creation and with the consultation of all ward councilors, further steps will be initiated.”

Ramesh Kanchan said that the Malpe-Parkala national highway road is damaged but the NHAI is not responding to the issues. The CMC commissioner replied that deputy commissioner R Vishal has warned the officials of stern action if the issues are not addressed.

The CMC commissioner said that a committee has been constituted to look into the issues regrading INOX multiplex. The deputy commissioner has planned of issuing a No Development Zone notification in the area where the INOX multiplex is situated. The permission for the operation of theater will be granted after looking into the report submitted by the committee.

Dr M R Pai said that the Paryaya is nearing and the CMC needs to be geared up for it. CMC President Yuvraj said that necessary preparations are under way. Dr Pai also said that the Bhujanga Park has turned into “Bhujanga Forest” and the CMC has not initiated any steps for its improvement. The CMC members then passed a resolution to construct a flyover instead of underpass at Karavali Junction.
