Udupi: Fish Marketing Federation to celebrate Diamond Jubilee on March 1

Udupi: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Co-Operative Fish Marketing Federation Ltd. will be celebrating its diamond jubilee on Sunday, March 1 at the Malpe beach, said Yaspal Suvarna, president of the Federation.

He was addressing the press meet at Hotel Kidyoor on Tuesday, February 24. To mark the celebration various programmes will be organised at the Malpe beach. The federation was established in 1954 by late S.K. Amin and late R.D. Mendon for the development of fisheries in general and welfare of fishermen in particular. The federation has implemented many schemes for the development of fisheries and the fishermen of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts. It has helped the fishermen of this area to use modern techniques to catch fish by using mechanization and has also helped the fishermen gain social and financial independence.
The inaugural function of the Diamond Jubilee will be held at the Malpe Beach. On March 21, a marathon fisherwomen conference has been proposed at Kundapura and on March 31, the release of a souvenir, a customers meet and the closing ceremony of the diamond jubilee will be held at Mangaluru.
As part of the celebrations, games such as beach volleyball, kabbadi and tug-of-war for men and women, swimming competition for men and beach throwball for women will be held at Malpe beach at 9.30 am on March 1. A sand sculpture carving competition on the theme ‘Light House’ and a drawing completion on the theme of fishing in the junior and senior divisions will also be held on the same day.
From 3 pm onwards, a dog show and competition, kite flying by International fame “Team Mangaluru” and traditional fishing method “Kai Rampani” will be displayed. Besides, coastal delicacies will be available on the venue. From 5 pm onwards, a stage programme, followed by oil painting by renowned artist “Chitra-Mithra” fame Prakash Shetty will be held.
Artist Prakash Shetty will create an oil painting on the beach. In the cultural programme that will be held 6.30 p.m. onwards, there will be a musical night by M.D. Pallavi and Rajesh Krishnan, followed by a dance performance by the Bharghavi troupe.
The stage function will begin at 6 pm. D V Sadananda Gowda (Union minister for Law) will inaugurate the programme. Vinay Kumar Sorake (State minister for Urban development and district minister in-charge), Abhayachandra Jain (minister for youth service and fisheries), Shobha Karandlaje (MP Udupi-Chikmagaluru), MLAs Pramod Madhwaraj, Kota Shrinivasa Poojary, Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty, Sunil Kumar, Dr G Shanker (president G Shanker family trust Udupi), former MLAs Raghupathi Bhat, Lalaji R Mendon, Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi (president DK district Bantara Sangha), Dr Mohan Alva (chairman Alvas Education Trust Moodbidri), Yuvaraj (president Udupi CMC), H T Kidiyoor (president Malpe fishermen Sangha), Praveen Naik (Assistant manager Co-operative Society), Sadananda Balkur (president Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane Udupi district), Councillor Prashanth Ameen, Vijay Kundar, Baby S Salian (president Udupi Taluk Mahila Hasi Meenu Maratagarara Sangha) will take part in this event.
Vice president Purushotham Ameen, Manager Suresh Kumar and director Ramachandra Kundar were present in the press meet.
