Udupi: The Kaup Block congress workers staged a protest against the land ordinance bill of the Centre on Thursday April 9 at the Bus-stand.

Addressing the protesters Vinay Kumar Sorake district minister in-charge and also state urban development minister said that the Modi government is following anti-farmer policy. Modi was hell-bent on implementing the controversial Act only to benefit the corporates. The Congress governments had provided land to farmers. But today, the NDA government lead by Narendra Modi, is snatching the land from the farmers and handing it over to the corporate companies. The ordinance bill should be withdrawn immediately, he added.

Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes addressing the gathering said that the proposed land ordinance bill would affect the livelihood of the peasants by taking away their land at a time when they need more land to protect their livelihood. The amendments are against the interests of farmers. The previous UPA government had brought in the Act to acquire land with the consent of farmers and pay them fair compensation. He demanded the Union government to withdraw the ordinance bill immediately.

Former MLA Gopal Bhandary, KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, congress leaders Sudhir Hegde, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Amrith Shenoy, Divakar Shetty, Ida Gibba D’Souza, Harish Kini, Sarasu D Bangera and others were present.
