Udupi: The biggest achievement of MLA Pramod Madhwaraj is distributing BPL cards, said Raghupati Bhat, former MLA of Udupi constituency. He was addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the Press Club here, on September 9.

Bhat said, “The government today is cancelling the BPL cards issued to beneficiaries and has set a target to village accountants and revenue inspectors to cancel 10 BPL cards per day. The government is also doing injustice to eligible beneficiaries by cancelling their BPL cards.”

He further said that the BJP government had formulated laws on ‘Kumki’ and ‘Mula Geni’ which the congress government has neglected. Sixteen thousand people are waiting to get their title deeds under 94 (C) in the district. The government is creating problems for the farmers by remaining silent on the future of the Bramhavar sugar factory. The subsidy which is a tax exemption on diesel given to fishermen is credited to their respective accounts has not been helpful. Many fishermen are still waiting for the subsidy to be credited to their accounts.

The Varahi Irrigation Project which was started by Eshwarappa has also been neglected by the Congress government after laying the foundation stone. The budget allocation for the project was made by the BJP government. CM Siddaramaiah inaugurated the project but the farmers are devastated as the project is not useful to them since the extension work of the project has been neglected.

The Congress in its election manifesto for Udupi CMC elections promised of not hiking the tax but it has made a U-turn by hiking the tax by 30%. The CMC has hiked the tax but one cannot witness any development in CMC. The state government has not extended any financial grant to CMC. An appeal has been made to MP Shobha Karandlaje to initiate steps to include Udupi CMC in Amruth Nagar project.

“The state is witnessing power crisis which has affected the district at large. MESCOM officials are not intimating people on power cut schedules. The people’s mandate to BJP in BBMP shows that the state government has made many blunders,” he added.

He also said that preparations are on for Raitha Chaitanya Yathre in Udupi which will be held on Sep 11. A massive crowed of 15,000 is expected to join the programme. Three rallies have been organized as part of the Raitha Chaitanya Yathre, starting from the State Home near Puttur, Narayan Guru Sabhabhavan Bannaje and Jodukatte which will culminate near Shamili auditorium.

BJP State President Prahalad Joshi, former DCM Eshwarappa, former DCM R Ashok, Gujarat MP Dinesh Gandhi and other leaders will be participating in the ‘yathre’.

DK and Udupi Fishermen’s Federation president Yaspal Suvarna, CMC members Shyamprasad Kudwa, Dinker Shetty Herga and others were present.
