Udupi: The Paryaya Samiti of Pejwara Math performed ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’, the last ritual of the four pre-rituals performed by the swamiji who ascends the Paryaya peeta.

Temple priests offered prayers to the presiding deity and varieties of cereals inside the Shiroor Math before taking a procession around Car Street with ‘Bhatthada mudi’ – husk bags containing paddy.

Later, the priests offered puja to deities within the premises of Krishna Math. Prayers were offered to the ‘Madhwavadiraja peetha’, ‘Subhramanya’, ‘Navagraha’ and ‘Brinndavan’ before entering Krishna temple.

‘Bhatthada Mudi’ was then brought in a golden palanquin before the Krishna Math and was taken in a procession to the ‘Badagumalige’, where the rituals were performed for the paddy.

Paddy bags were kept in the ‘pattada mancha’ in the Badagumalige and prayers were offered. ‘Dhana’ was offered to the Dewans of Madhwa Math on the occasion, which marked the end of the ceremony.

Shree Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejwar Math will ascend the ‘Paryaya’ throne on January 18 to perform Krishna Puja and run the administration for the next two years under the biennial Paryaya system.
