Udupi: Two Arrested for Setting Fire to Fancy Shop at Sastan

Udupi: The Kota police have nabbed two of the five absconding persons in connection to an arson case involving a fancy store at Kodi, Sastan. The accused have been identified as Sharath (21) and Vignesh (20), residents of Kota.

Some miscreants had set fire to a fancy store following a rift between two communities. The fancy store was owned by Pratap Kunder. Pratap Kunder’s brother Praveen and his friends were part of a team in a fight between two communities. Praveen had alleged that the youth from the other community were involved in eve teasing.

With the involvement of Kota PSI Kabbalraj H D, the issue had been solved. He had also warned the leaders of both the communities of initiating stringent action if involved in any violence leading to communal tension. Both the community leaders had assured of maintaining peace in a meeting with the Kota PSI on August 27.

Later, some miscreants set fire to the fancy store owned by Pratap Kunder on August 27.

During the course of interrogation, the accused admitted their involvement in the crime. The accused have also said that the prime accused Abhishek, who is absconding, had pressurised the accused to set fire to the fancy store and paid them money.

The other accused, Bharath and Sashi, residents of Kota are still absconding. The police have intensified their search operations.
