Udupi: Two deacons from the Diocese will be ordained this week as priests to serve at their native churches.
Deacon Royson Joel Fernandes will be ordained on Monday, April 27 at his native parish, the Maria Goretti Church (Hirgan) by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. Deacon Vijay Joyson D’Souza will be conferred priesthood by the Bishop on Tuesday, April 28 at St John Bosco Church (Kelmbet-Bola).
Deacon Vijay Joyson D’Souza is the son of Joseph and Nathalia D’Souza, parishioners of St John Bosco Church, Kelmbet-Bola and deacon Royson Joel Fernandes is the son of Richard and Jacintha Fernandes, parishioners of St Maria Goretti Church, Hirgan. Both deacons were trained at St Joseph’s Seminary at Jeppu, Mangaluru and have assisted as deacons in religious ceremonies at various parishes of Udupi and Mangaluru Diocese during the period of their training.
It may be recalled that the first deacon of the newly-formed Udupi diocese was ordained at Moodubelle parish during 2013, two deacons were ordained at the Shirva Church in 2014 and this is the third ordination of 2 more deacons, which will be held at Hirgan and Kelmbet-Bola.
